Concept

Your brain never rests.
It keeps processing.

Social media, notifications, news—the modern brain rarely gets a moment of true rest. The time we spend "just being" has nearly disappeared.

Hoshé was designed in Japan with a different intention: not to stimulate your brain, but to gently quiet it. This is the fundamental difference between Hoshé and other games.

Science

A few words about
the brain.

Multiple studies have shown that sound and color influence our state of attention and relaxation. Hoshé draws on this research to design a sensory experience.

Research

Stanford University (2022) research found that 15 minutes of music listening significantly enhances parasympathetic nervous system activity.

Color psychology studies (Elliot & Maier, 2014) indicate that blue and green tones tend to lower heart rate and promote relaxation.

Frontiers in Psychology (2019) published research showing that repetitive simple movements can produce brainwave patterns similar to mindfulness states.

※ Hoshé is designed with reference to these findings but does not guarantee specific effects.

Thinking brain (β waves)
At work, lost in thought, scrolling social media. The brain stays active and grows tired.

Towards θ-wave state
Hoshé is designed with the intention of guiding the brain toward a state closer to θ waves. While we cannot promise this, that's the experience we aim to create.
Hoshé's design philosophy

What are θ waves?

A brain state close to
"just zoning out."

Right before sleep, while soaking in a bath, the moment an idea suddenly appears—these are moments when the brain is said to be near a θ-wave state.

Japanese Aesthetics

Ma · The Space Between

In Japanese aesthetics, ma is the meaningful pause—the silence between notes in music, the empty space in a painting. Hoshé is built around this principle. The colors fade. The sounds settle. The game lets you exist in the spaces between your thoughts.

Design

Crafted with
sound and color.

🎵
Sound design

Each mode has distinct frequencies, reverb, and overtones. Sound's influence on relaxation and focus is well-documented, and Hoshé is designed with this in mind.

When to play

Built for the
in-between moments.

Hoshé doesn't ask for an hour of your day. It fits in the small pauses—the spaces between everything else.

🌅

After breakfast

When your mind is fed and clear. A morning ritual that doesn't rush you into the day.

🧘

Before pilates or yoga

The five minutes between leaving home and arriving. On the train. In a waiting room. Quietly.

🛁

In the bath

Just steam and screen light, nothing else. The day's noise gently fading out.

🌙

Before sleep

Instead of scrolling, instead of thinking about tomorrow—just colors. Just stillness.

Why Hoshé

Fundamentally different
from typical games.

Typical games
Overstimulating. Loud effects. The brain grows tired.
Hoshé
Restrained stimulation. Quiet sound and color. The brain rests.
Typical games
Winning, losing, rankings, stress.
Hoshé
No game over. At your own pace, simply continuing.
Typical games
Your mind is wired afterward.
Hoshé
You feel quieter than when you started.

"On nights when
you want to do nothing,
it's just right."

The nights you can't put your phone down. Social media gives you nothing, but you can't sit still either. For those moments, Hoshé exists.

FAQ

Common questions.

θ waves are a type of brainwave. They tend to appear when drifting off to sleep, when zoning out, or in moments when ideas suddenly emerge. Hoshé doesn't claim to produce θ waves definitively, but it aims to create an experience close to that state.
